Winter, the Most Wonderful Time of the Year at Eagle Brae
Winter in Scotland is truly a magical time. Just this week one of our guests captured the most stunning picture of the Northern Lights over our lodges (see it here). There is no better place to experience winter than at Eagle Brae and here we are going to tell you just why we are the perfect retreat. So, snuggle up in our luxury log cabins for the holiday of a lifetime. Put on the log burner, order in a heart-warming Eagle Brae pre-made dinner and enjoy a Scottish winter break to revitalise and nourish you to the core.
1. Amazing Winter Lodges with Stunning Highland Views
Our hand-made, Canadian, luxury log cabins are inspired world round to make the most amazing winter lodges with plenty of quirks. From eco insulated grass roofs, warm nights by the log fires, handmade Indian kitchens, secret log beds and Himalayan carvings – you’re sure to be entertained without having to step a foot outdoors! For those who do manage to pull themselves from the comfort of their holiday hideaway, there’s plenty to explore. Each cabin has its own seating area outdoors to wrap up and admire stunning views of the glen. In addition, with our roaming family of deer, pet goats and famous mountain dog (Kyla – who has become a firm favourite with guests), you are sure to be captivated outdoors as well as in.
2. Picture Postcard Scottish Scenery
Our location in the Highlands, amongst the mountains, glens and forests, provides magnificent views in all directions. Our lovingly hand-carved, sustainably sourced, log cabins fit in perfectly with their surroundings. During the winter months, the dramatic landscape is often covered in a blanket of pure white snow. Simply stunning! Each of our quirky cabins is surrounded by spectacular nature and scenery all year long. When the snow falls, it is simply breath-taking. Cosy up in your cabin with a wee dram of whisky and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
3. Clear Skies for Stargazing, and the Northern Lights
Out in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands, the skies are ablaze with stars on a cold, clear night. During the winter, with the dark nights, you are sure to spend hours stargazing, looking for planets and shooting stars. We have even been lucky enough to witness the captivating Northern Lights on many occasions. Follow us on Facebook and keep up to date with our latest snaps, nature pics and happenings this winter.
4. The Wonders of Our Winter Wildlife
There are plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife in the Highlands, even from within our Eagle Brae Lodges. Keep an eye out for our roaming red deer family, as well as badgers, pine martens and incredible bird life. Venture offsite, if you can bear to leave, and enjoy otters, seals, mountain hares, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, buzzards, red kites, puffins, ptarmigans and so much more. Or why not pop along the road for a little Nessie hunting!
5. Dog Sledding
We also offer an array of outdoor activities, from fishing, walking, stalking and birdwatching to one of our favourite winter activities at Eagle Brae, dog sledding. This is a fun and unique way to see the Scottish Highlands. Whizzing through the open air on a sled pulled by hounds and huskies is a thrilling experience. Furthermore, snowy weather is not required, as the sled can easily be pulled on the grass – it actually goes faster on the grass! Our dog sledding trips are a truly unforgettable holiday adventure.
