Embark on a truly spectacular Highland pony trekking adventure during your stay at Eagle Brae log cabins. We can arrange for you to go trekking in the magnificent surroundings of Glen Affric National Nature Reserve. You can choose between a 2-hour, half day or a full day experience, which begins at Cougie in Glen Affric. This is a 40-minute drive from Eagle Brae, but it’s well worth the trip. And the route there passes some breath-taking scenery, including Plodda Falls, an amazing 150 ft high waterfall. Pony trekking out at Glen Affric, you’ll experience the wilds of the Scottish Highlands like never before.
Discover Hidden Gems
Your Guides
Your Glen Affric pony trekking guides are none other than the Pocock family, stars of the BBC documentary Power To The Pococks. They are the only people who actually live on the nature reserve and they know it like the back of their hands! So, they can show you the best trekking routes out in the wilderness and some hidden gems along the way.
The Pony Trekking Experience
On arrival at Cougie, there is a large woodland garden with seats and picnic tables, where visitors may wait. There are plenty of farm animals like hens, ducks and rabbits for the children to feed. Plus, you can enjoy some low-level walks, take in the woodland views and look out for local wildlife.
When it’s time for your Highland pony trekking activity, your guides will take you out into the remote Scottish landscape. Longer treks include breath-taking views down into Loch Affric from above, while shorter treks take in some of the scenery closer to Cougie. Whichever route you take, keep an eye out for Scottish wildlife, such as majestic golden eagles flying overhead.
This unique experience is suitable for all riding abilities. The Highland ponies are very sure-footed and you will be in great hands with experienced guides.
